With the New Year just around the corner, it could be an ideal moment to replace those worn-out tires. But which brand should you consider for this upgrade? The social media manager at Evans Toyota in Fort Wayne, Indiana (@evanstoyota), posed this question to the dealership's mechanics to find out their favorite brand. The video, originally posted by Evans in August 2024, has garnered over 70,700 views and is still climbing. What were the mechanics' choices? The video interviewer inquired, "Which tire brand do you prefer the most?" One mechanic favors the American brand Goodyear, citing their Duratracs as a favorite. Another picks the Japanese brand Falken, while a third returns to Goodyear, and the next chooses Yokohama, another Japanese option. The fifth mechanic at Evans selects the lesser-known B.F. Goodrich, an American company that was acquired by French tire giant Michelin in 1990. He shares a personal connection, mentioning his grandfather's fifty-year tenure at B.F. Goodrich. Ultimately, the last mechanic also chooses Goodyear, making it the clear favorite among the Evans team. However, do the experts align with this choice? Consumer Reports, a top brand, offered a different perspective, as none of the brands mentioned by Evans made their list of recommendations. According to Consumer Reports' YouTube channel, Michelin and Continental were identified as the premier tire brands for 2025. Michelin's Defender 2 was hailed as the best tire for cars and mid-sized SUVs, while Continental's Terrain Contact H/T from Germany was named the best all-season tire for trucks. Tire Easy.com also ranked Michelin first, with Goodyear in second place. "Goodyear has solidified its position as a leading tire brand, known for its superior grip and responsive handling," it states. Cartalk, however, was less impressed, aligning with Consumer Reports in ranking Michelin and Continental as the top two, respectively, with Yokohama in fourth place and Goodyear in fifth. Torii Jackson, the social media creator at Evans Toyota, told the Daily Dot, "As a Toyota dealership, we relish sharing our insights and perspectives with the public. We might stir up some debate, but that's part of the thrill. This video, along with others, was created to highlight our distinct personalities to our customers!" @evanstoyota What about you? . . . . . #askingmechanics #tire #cartok #carnote #car #cars #tirebrands #whatsyourfavoritetirebrand #goodtires #goodyear #bfgoodrich #yokohama #toyota #mechanic #mechanics #grwm #replying ♬ original sound – Evans Toyota Public Opinion on Tire Brands. As expected, viewers of the video had a plethora of thoughts and shared them in the comments. "In my opinion, Cooper and Goodyear provide excellent value for money; I haven't had any problems with them so far," Khaoscats (@khaoscats) stated. A viewer succinctly commented, "The only correct answer is Yokohama." Another person remarked, "Goodyear tires are honestly the worst among the major brands; if you're not on a tight budget, opt for Michelin or Bridgestone." "Someone joked, 'Goodyears are only good for one year!'" One viewer fully supported the experts by saying, “I believe Michelin is the top tire brand in the automotive industry since Michelin tires offer a smooth ride on the road.” The Daily Dot also reached out to Goodyear via their website for a statement.
