Porsche has unveiled the latest 992.2 Carrera S, boasting increased power and additional standard features, although it no longer offers a manual transmission option.

Porsche has introduced the newest member of its 992.2-generation family: the 2025 911 Carrera S. This model boasts impressive performance enhancements, but it also features a contentious alteration that could dishearten traditionalists. While the car delivers increased power, it has eliminated the manual transmission option that was previously offered, resulting in fewer opportunities for fans of manual gear shifting.

In a move that showcases Porsche‘s commitment to performance, the updated Carrera S now produces 473 horsepower from its twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter flat-six engine, marking a substantial 30-horsepower increase over its predecessor.

The increase in power is attributed to the introduction of new turbochargers and enhanced charge-air cooling, while torque stays steady at 390 pound-feet. This enhancement in power aligns with the performance of the earlier GTS model, underscoring Porsche's commitment to ongoing advancements throughout its lineup.

With enhanced power and the standard eight-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission, the Carrera S delivers remarkable performance metrics. When fitted with the Sport Chrono Package, the coupe accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in a mere 3.1 seconds, improving by 0.2 seconds compared to its predecessor. Porsche asserts that the revamped Carrera S can reach a maximum speed of 191 mph.

The removal of the seven-speed manual transmission option means that only two models in the 911 lineup now offer a stick shift: the Carrera T, designed for driving enthusiasts, and the GT3, tailored for the track. This move highlights a broader industry trend favoring automated transmissions, which could disappoint fans who appreciate the hands-on experience of manual shifting.

For the 2025 model year, the Carrera S sees a notable increase in standard features to align with its higher price tag. This includes the addition of a Sport Exhaust system and enhanced braking components taken from the former GTS model, featuring 408mm front and 380mm rear discs. The interior is also enhanced with more luxurious leather trim. On the outside, the vehicle boasts subtle refinements that align with the other models in the 992.2 generation, such as updated front air intakes and new matrix LED headlights.

The pricing for the latest model incorporates these enhancements, with the Carrera S coupe beginning at $148,395 and the Cabriolet priced at $161,595 – marking an increase of around $15,000 compared to the previous versions. The coupe is offered as a standard two-seater, with the option to add rear seats at no additional cost, whereas the Cabriolet retains a fixed 2+2 seating arrangement.

Porsche has refined the vehicle's handling dynamics with upgraded dampers designed to enhance ride comfort and responsiveness. Additionally, available performance enhancements feature rear-wheel steering with a more rapid steering ratio, a front-axle lift mechanism, and ceramic composite braking systems.

Orders for the 2025 Porsche 911 Carrera S are now open, with delivery anticipated to start in the spring of 2025. This model fits into the 911 series, positioned between the standard Carrera and the newly launched hybrid GTS variant. It enhances Porsche's collection of high-performance sports cars while also reflecting contemporary automotive trends, for better or worse.
