Decline in Vehicle Registrations in Cyprus for December

According to data released by the statistical office on Friday, the overall number of motor vehicle registrations in Cyprus fell in December, attributed to a decrease in demand for passenger cars.

Registrations fell by 5.3 percent compared to the previous year, totaling 2,836 vehicles. Sales of passenger cars saw a decline of 16.9 percent.

From January to December, total registrations increased by 9.1 percent, reaching 38,410 units. Sales of passenger cars saw a rise of 4.9 percent.

The proportion of petrol-powered passenger vehicles decreased to 48.6 percent, down from 57.5 percent the previous year.

In 2023, the proportion of diesel vehicles increased slightly from 10.2 percent to 10.3 percent, while the percentage of electric vehicles saw a more significant rise from 2.7 percent to 4.0 percent. Meanwhile, hybrid cars experienced a remarkable jump in their share, climbing from 29.6 percent to 37.1 percent.
