Introducing the latest Toyota Urban Cruiser.

The latest addition to Toyota’s growing range of battery electric models is a compact SUV that will give the brand a strong presence in one of the most competitive and fast-growing segments of the European BEV market.

Prior to the model’s UK launch later this year, customers can sign up to be kept informed of details as they are released at www.toyota.co.uk.

Urban Cruiser stands out with a powerful Urban Tech-influenced design that expresses its quality as an authentic SUV. The frontal styling presents the “hammerhead” look and slim headlight units that are distinguishing elements in a new generation of Toyota models, while the strong rear quarters and a wrap-around rear light bar project SUV-like strength and stability.

When it comes to size, the Urban Cruiser is marginally larger than the Yaris Cross. Its compact turning radius of 5.2 meters allows for agile handling in city driving.

The interior boasts ample space, attributed to its lengthy 2,700mm wheelbase and adaptable, sliding rear seat configuration. This allows for rear seat legroom that can compete with that of a D-segment vehicle.

The interior design showcases typical SUV features, including a horizontally positioned instrument panel and a higher seating arrangement that provides a comprehensive view from the driver's seat. Additionally, the cabin atmosphere can be improved with a lighting system that includes 12 different color options.

Chassis and propulsion systems

The Urban Cruiser is constructed on a robust yet lightweight new framework specifically designed for battery electric vehicles. This innovative design eliminates the necessity for crossmembers in the floor, allowing for increased battery capacity without sacrificing interior space.

The Urban Cruiser will come with two battery pack choices, both utilizing robust yet cost-effective lithium-iron phosphate technology. One option is a 49-kWh battery that delivers an output of 106kW/142bhp/144 DIN hp, which will be exclusively paired with front-wheel drive. The other option is a 61-kWh battery that can be found in both front-wheel drive and, depending on the market, all-wheel drive versions of the Urban Cruiser. In the front-wheel drive configuration, the 61-kWh battery generates 128kW/172bhp/174 DIN hp, while the all-wheel drive variant boasts a slightly higher output of 135kW/182bhp/184 DIN hp.

The AWD variant features an extra 48kW motor located on the rear axle and comes with Downhill Assist Control, along with specialized Trail and Snow modes to enhance performance in slippery environments.

Safety and gear

The Urban Cruiser will come standard with a comprehensive array of cutting-edge active safety and driver support technologies, featuring pre-collision warning, adaptive cruise control, and lane departure alert with keep assist functions.

The complete digital user experience features a 10.25-inch driver’s combimeter alongside a 10.1-inch multimedia display, both elegantly combined into a streamlined unit. Effortless smartphone connectivity will be available for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto systems.

High-end equipment options will include a 360-degree camera, a JBL sound system, and electric adjustments for the driver's seat. Additionally, a fixed sunroof will be available.
