The Nissan Skyline R32 GT-R's popularity is undeniable, particularly within the tuning community. Chances are you've come across builds boasting 1000 horsepower, formidable time attack machines, and various other impressive creations, thanks to the remarkable RB26 engine and ATTESA all-wheel drive system. Lately, it has also become a coveted collector's item for enthusiasts who cherish the nostalgia of 90’s Japanese Domestic Market cars.

However, it appears that Nissan believes they can enhance the R32 GT-R even more, not through engine tuning and performance upgrades, but by converting it into an electric vehicle. That's correct; Nissan has taken this immaculate Gun Metal Gray R32 GT-R and transformed it into an EV.

I understand your curiosity, and as a fellow GT-R enthusiast, I share your sentiments. However, Nissan explains that transforming the R32 GT-R into an electric vehicle is a way to “preserve its legacy for the future, be it in 30 years, 100 years, or even longer.” In essence, Nissan aims to ensure that the R32 GT-R remains enjoyable for fans even as the automotive world moves towards an all-electric future.

Before I dive into my opinions on this vehicle, let’s examine the specifications of the R32 EV. The iconic RB26 engine that originally delivered 280 horsepower has been replaced by a pair of electric motors, one at the front and one at the rear, each generating 160kW and 340Nm of torque. This means the car retains its all-wheel-drive capability. Additional enhancements include stylish new 18-inch wheels that pay homage to the original 16-inch design, upgraded brakes from the R35 GT-R, Ohlins suspension for improved handling, comfortable Recaro seats, and the inclusion of paddle shifters for a more engaging driving experience.

Curiously, the remainder of the interior has not been altered. Nissan chose to keep the original factory stereo intact. To accommodate the battery, the rear seats have been removed, transforming this R32 into a dedicated two-seater. However, this modification has resulted in a significant increase in weight, bringing the car's total to nearly 1800kg.

From my perspective, the R32 EV has its merits, but I struggle to see it as a true GT-R. While the chassis may be labeled BNR32, the added weight alters its handling dynamics, and it definitely doesn’t produce the same thrilling sound. I understand that some may have differing opinions, but one thing is certain – this vehicle will certainly spark conversation.
