A prototype of the Renault Twingo's interior has been unveiled at the Brussels Motor Show, showcasing elements that pay homage to the classic original design.

The next-generation Renault Twingo is edging ever-closer to production, with the company revealing a prototype interior at the Brussels Motor Show this week. The cabin is said to preview the “future Twingo set to arrive on the market in 2026”.

Following last year’s Twingo E-Tech Electric concept, and news that the car will be realised in production form soon, Renault has now given us a peek at the new model’s interior. Betraying the car’s budget billing – prices are set to start from under 20,000 Euros (£16,700) – its dashboard is dominated by a pair of big digital displays, which sit above a row of rotary climate-control dials.

Renault says the 10.1-inch central infotainment screen and seven-inch digital instrument cluster feature “original graphics”, although the fonts and layouts will look familiar to anyone who’s sat in one of the firm’s latest electric cars. Likewise, the column-mounted gear selector appears identical to the one found in the new Renault 5.

This combination of contemporary and classic design persists; the hazard warning light switch pays homage to the original Twingo, while the cylindrical dashboard has been updated for this new model. The practicality of the first-generation vehicle has been mirrored for 2025, featuring space beneath the dashboard for bags and luggage, along with storage that spans the entire width of the cabin—offering a convenient spot for phones, wallets, and sunglasses.

Emphasizing versatility and practicality, the latest images reveal the prototype's sliding and folding rear seats, which feature a 50:50 split and can be completely flattened. Renault asserts that the vehicle is “engineered for intuitive use and maximum flexibility, boasting five doors for convenient access.”

Color will be a significant factor in the allure of the Twingo, much like it was for the original model. The designs inside the car coordinate with its exterior, and the 'tinted cork' flooring features vibrant specks to enhance the overall atmosphere. Renault claims that the prototype served as a chance to innovate and experiment with fresh concepts, but they emphasize that the material is both "tough and long-lasting."

Smart interior design elements feature magnetic panels located on the rear side of the front headrests, allowing passengers to securely attach their phones or tablets. Additionally, elastic straps are included to conveniently hold items like maps or water bottles.

Alongside the updated cabin, the Twingo has undergone various modifications to its exterior since its debut at the Paris Motor Show last year. Renault has stated that the model is designed to serve a "functional role in enabling engineers to evaluate and enhance different features." For instance, a new air intake has been added at the front, and the rear wheelarch extensions have been reduced in size. Additionally, the black bumper inserts are now produced using 3D printing technology.

Additional enhancements and adjustments aimed at preparing the car for mass production feature simplified door handles, eliminating the costly illuminated trim seen on the prototype. There's also added glass near the door mirrors for better visibility, along with revised rear light clusters that incorporate additional LED elements.

It remains uncertain if additional updates for the Twingo will be introduced prior to the debut of the production model next year. However, Renault's dedication to consistently refining the design and features of its cars suggests that more enhancements could be announced as the launch date approaches.
