Rumors about an Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag remake are sailing around the internet once again. This time, it is reportedly confirmed the reimagining will be more than just a visual update, and may actually feature new gameplay systems.
Rumors suggest that the remake of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag will introduce innovative gameplay systems.
According to MP1st, fresh details have emerged from the online profile of the game’s designer, indicating a remake of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. It is said that this remake will utilize the enhanced Anvil Engine, a technology that Ubisoft has relied on for the series since its inception. Furthermore, the profile hints at the introduction of new gameplay mechanics for combat, as well as the incorporation of “ecosystems surrounding wildlife.”
MP1st notes that this is the same developer that accidentally listed the rumored The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion remake. The latest rumors surrounding the Bethesda remake also mentions gameplay systems not featured in the original.
Reports regarding the remake go as far as 2023, where Kotaku reported their sources claimed the game was in very early development. In the beginning of 2024, speculation about the remake began to swirl again as fans believed references to the game were included in several Ubisoft employees’ LinkedIn profiles.
In October last year, Insider Gaming claimed the remake was initially scheduled for a release around November 2025. However, the recent Assassin’s Creed Shadows delays may have shifted time tables since that report.
It would not be surprising if an Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag remake did exist. Especially considering Ubisoft confirmed it is currently working on remakes for some of the older entries.
"To begin with, players can look forward to several remakes that will enable us to bring back and update some of our classic games. There are still incredibly vibrant worlds in many of our earlier Assassin’s Creed titles," stated Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot.
As with any leak or rumor, it's wise to approach this information cautiously. While there's a chance that it could be legitimate, there's also the possibility that it may never come to fruition, particularly given the current state of the industry. We'll have more clarity if it is eventually officially announced.
