In 2025, Social Security beneficiaries can expect a 2.5% increase in their monthly checks. While this anticipated rise is consistent with analyst predictions, it is significantly smaller than the increases seen in recent years.
This adjustment reflects a slowdown in inflation relative to earlier years. In 2024, beneficiaries experienced a 3.2% rise in their benefits, succeeding a notable 8.7% boost in 2023, which was driven by inflation rates that hadn't been witnessed in more than forty years.
With the start of the new year, Social Security beneficiaries can expect another round of payments. Monthly payments from the Social Security Administration (SSA) are crucial for many, with different schedules based on specific criteria.
Comprehending the SSI Payment Timeline
The SSA makes regular monthly payments based on a schedule that is largely determined by your birth date. Social Security retirement, disability, and survivor (RSDI) beneficiaries who filed claims after May 1, 1997 will receive payments on the second, third, or fourth Wednesday of each month.
Individuals with disabilities and older adults receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI) typically receive monthly payments on the first of the month.
When the first day of the month lands on a weekend or a holiday, payments are usually processed on the last weekday prior. Moreover, individuals who began receiving benefits prior to May 1997 have a designated payment date.
Schedule for Social Security Payments in January 2025
Beneficiaries can anticipate receiving their monthly payments in January on the following dates:
- SSA beneficiaries who started receiving benefits before May 1997: January 3
- Birthday between the 1st and 10th of the month: January 8 (Second Wednesday of the month)
- Birthday between the 11th and 20th of the month: January 15 (Third Wednesday of the month)
- Birthday between the 21st and 31st of the month: January 22 (Fourth Wednesday of the month)
The Social Security Administration will issue this month’s SSI payment on December 31, New Year’s Eve, since January 1st is a holiday.
