We already know from Nvidia's keynote presentation at CES last week that the RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 will be available from Jan. 30, but what we didn't know is when reviewers will get their hands on the graphics cards to be able to compare them side by side with others in games. The first embargo date, claimed by Videocardz today, will be Jan. 24, and that will be for the RTX 5090.

The website hasn't provided a source for the information, nor has it labeled the post as a rumor, which implies that it may have originated from Nvidia directly or possibly from a retailer or board partner. This indicates that in just 11 days, we will find out how the RTX 5090 performs in comparison to other models like the RTX 4090 and AMD Radeon RX 7900XTX.

The release date for the Nvidia RTX 5080 has not been officially announced yet.

The article mentions that reviews for the RTX 5080 will be published on January 30, coinciding with its release date. This timing has sparked discussions online regarding Nvidia's strategy, with some speculating that the performance of the RTX 5080 may not be as remarkable as that of the RTX 5090. This has led to theories that Nvidia hopes to encourage potential buyers to make purchases before they have the chance to read any reviews.

According to Videocardz, the release dates have been postponed because a BIOS for the new graphics cards arrived later than expected. This delay prompted AIB or partner card manufacturers to ask for more time to finalize their models. The article further states that the embargo for both Nvidia's Founders Edition models and the AIB card variants will be lifted simultaneously.

Currently, no other sources have verified these dates, so it's wise to treat them as speculation for the time being. We'll only have a clearer picture once the reviews are published, as those platforms will be restricted from disclosing any information beforehand.

What are the expected prices for the RTX 5090 and RTX 5080?

The RTX 5090 is set to be priced at $1,999, featuring 32GB of GDDR7 memory. Nvidia asserts that it can deliver performance that is nearly double that of the RTX 4090, particularly when utilizing DLSS4 and Multi Frame Generation. Meanwhile, the RTX 5080 will be available for $999, matching the launch price of the RTX 4080, and will come equipped with 16GB of GDDR7 memory.

Notably, the Founders Edition cards are designed to be significantly more compact than earlier models, occupying just two slots rather than three like the RTX 4080 and 4090 Founders Edition cards. As a result, they will face fewer compatibility challenges and will be better suited for small form factor mini-ITX cases.

In the meantime, AMD is anticipated to launch its latest Radeon RX 9000 series, which is built on the RDNA 4 architecture. The RX 9070 XT is projected to deliver performance that falls between the RTX 4070 Ti Super and the RTX 4080, even surpassing the RTX 4080 Super in one benchmark test. Speculations suggest that the starting price will be around $479 for the reference model, with AIB or partner card versions expected to retail for approximately $600 after taxes.
