Illinois – Kohl’s has announced it will close 27 underperforming stores nationwide, including two Illinois locations, by April 2025. The move is part of the company’s strategy to streamline operations and focus on long-term growth.
As per a release from Kohl’s, the Illinois locations scheduled for closure include the Plainfield store at 11860 S Route 59 and the Spring Hill store situated at 3000 Spring Hill Ring Road in West Dundee. These shutdowns account for under 3% of the retailer's total of 1,150 stores across the country.
The store closures occur as Kohl’s experiences mounting challenges due to shifting consumer behaviors and the growth of online shopping. The retailer aims to implement these changes to avoid the financial difficulties that have affected rivals such as Sears and JCPenney.
Customers in the impacted areas are encouraged to make the most of clearance discounts and start checking out local shops or online alternatives for their upcoming buying needs.
These shutdowns come in the wake of similar declarations from Macy's, highlighting the wider difficulties faced by conventional department stores in the current retail landscape.
