TikTok enthusiasts are playfully bidding farewell to their "Chinese spy" in a lighthearted effort to deal with the potential ban of the widely-used app.
Recently, a multitude of videos shared on the platform have seen TikTok users playfully mocking the U.S. government's worries about the app's connections to Beijing, bidding humorous goodbyes to their fictional Chinese overseers.
In a video that has garnered more than 3.6 million views, TikToker @claxmcb bids a poignant farewell to someone he refers to as his “guardian angel.”
"I'd like to address the Chinese spy who's been keeping an eye on me," the user states, before going on to share his favorite trends on the platform, such as Addison Rae and the Hawk Tuah girl.
The video concludes with @clacmcb sharing a poignant quote from Mao Zedong, the former chairman of the Chinese Communist Party, before dramatically breaking into tears.
“Farewell, my Chinese spy, my radiant star, my protective angel,” he declares.

ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, has been instructed to sell off the app's U.S. operations by Sunday or risk a countrywide ban.
Many legislators are calling on President Joe Biden to prolong the Sunday deadline, citing the significant number of Americans who depend on the app for their financial stability.
A recent report by Bloomberg suggested that Elon Musk might swoop in to save the day as well.
Aside from the wholehearted farewells, users are also sharing clips from Furious 7, Interstellar, and Guardians of the Galaxy 2 to showcase their satirical love for the app’s spies.

However, the trend extends beyond that. Users in China are also joining in on the meme by pretending to be the purported government agents.
In a viral video named “Chinese Spy Last Words,” which has garnered an impressive 13.9 million views, TikToker @yanxiao1003 from China delivers a poignant farewell to the app’s loyal followers.
“Hey everyone, this is your friendly neighborhood Chinese spy. I’m sharing this video now before it’s too late. It seems we may not cross paths again,” he states. “So, I have a few words to share: It has been an incredible honor to observe you all these years. I hope you all enjoy wonderful lives ahead.”
The TikToker also extended several shout-outs to fictional users he had observed in the past, sharing some final words of wisdom with them.
"Let’s get personal for a moment. Laura in California, you really need to cut back on the Coca-Cola; it’s not good for your health. And Peter from New York, remember that your mom cares about you. Don’t take her for granted,” he goes on. “And Stephanie from Texas, think twice before sending that nude pic to Marvin. He’s a player and is likely chatting with other girls too. By the way, you’ve got a great figure."

In reaction, TikTok users who are already grieving are showering @yanxiao1003 with compliments.
"Thanks a lot," a user commented. "You're more than just a spy; you're like family to us."
"Even though I don't reside in America, this still brings me sadness," another person commented.
The future of TikTok remains uncertain. Although Supreme Court has yet to rule, the judicial body seems reluctant to overturn the ban. As such, many users have begun flocking to other Chinese, TikTok-style apps in China, such as Xiaohongshu (RedNote).
