The Nintendo Switch 2 leaks, real or not, have been steadily ramping up in recent days. Speculation for the Big N's next big console hybrid is at an all-time high as mock-ups have flooded the internet and tech show CES 2025 - though at least one accessory maker did backtrack and confirm its own mock-ups were based on online leaks. But one former Nintendo marketing lead speculates that the company won't let internet rumblings affect its plans.
Nintendo of America's former director of social media marketing and original content Kit Ellis - also one half of the much-loved and now-defunct Nintendo Minute YouTube series - gave his thoughts on the recent ongoings in a recent Patreon video.
"One key principle we emphasize is Nintendo's focus on long-term strategies instead of immediate gains. The decision to alter their announcement date for the Switch [2] seems to be a response to current circumstances," Ellis remarked. "An important consideration is whether these current events will negatively impact the next seven years of the Switch 2, or the duration of that generation. I believe the answer is no; it likely won't have a significant effect."
"They're going through a tough period right now, feeling uneasy about the current situation and disliking the unfolding events. However, once they make their announcement, showcase the games, and start moving forward while sharing details, much of this will be behind them," he added. He emphasized that "the key point" is that there haven’t been any leaks regarding Switch 2 games so far. Nevertheless, Nintendo likely doesn't need to be concerned since its first-party titles "aren't being sent to a factory in China."
In any case, we won’t have to wait much longer to catch a glimpse of the actual console. Ellis points out that Nintendo may prefer to steer clear of the US President's Inauguration happening next week, but other than that significant event, the company has plenty of chances this month to officially unveil its new console.
