Iowa — Currently, there is a significant variation in gasoline prices throughout Iowa, with costs differing by as much as 50 cents per gallon depending on the location where you refuel.

Even specialists are bewildered by the current situation. Brian Ortner, a representative for AAA Iowa, mentions that they keep a daily watch on gas prices, yet he finds no rationale for the abrupt increase to over three dollars a gallon in certain areas of the state.

According to Ortner, the gas prices in northeast Iowa are considerably elevated compared to those in southwest Iowa, and he finds this situation quite perplexing.

He states that there is no obvious explanation for why prices are significantly higher in a particular area of the state.

As of Thursday, the typical cost for a gallon of gas in Allamakee County, located in the far northeast of Iowa, stands at $3.11. In contrast, Fremont County in the southwest part of the state sees a much lower price of $2.66. Overall, the average gas price across Iowa is $2.91, which is significantly less than the national average of $3.06.

In northwest Iowa, a recent visit to gasbuddy.com on Friday afternoon revealed that fuel prices vary significantly. Hawarden had the highest price at $2.94, while Rock Valley recorded the lowest at $2.59. In the surrounding areas, gas prices stand at $2.89 per gallon in Rock Rapids, Sanborn, Alton, and Orange City, $2.84 in George, $2.79 in Sibley, Hull, and Sioux Center, and $2.69 in Sheldon and Primghar.
